On the News

Mitt Romney's speech on December 6th created quite a stir here in Nashville. Bob received an e-mail saying that channel 2 wanted to interview a Church representative and get their reaction to the speech. Well...guess who ended up being that representative? His twenty minute interview ended up being about one minute. He and a professor from Vanderbilt were interviewed not only about the speech, but about a study that has recently been done regarding discrimination against Mormons. The results of the study show that Mormons are discriminated against. (Gee are you surprised?) The interview actually went very well, but the reporter used only a small portion of what was said. When asked if there was prejudice against Mormons, Bob hesitated for a moment and then answered, "Yes, there is, but as people get to know us, they find out we're no different than anyone else." Yes...people actually do find out that we are pretty decent people. Why do we have to keep proving ourselves? Can the American people actually look beyond a person's race or religion, or is bigotry alive and well in this the United States of America? It sure makes you think.

In the words or Ozzy Osbourne (Alice Cooper's cohort), "When will all the anger, hate, and bigotry be done?" Maybe the Vandy study will get me a full ride to medical school...

PS
Does that say dad is an LDS Councilor under his picture?

I saw the clip. Bob did an awesome job. Can you get me his autograph? Now that he's been on TV, is the paparrazi camped out at your house??? ;)

Wow! That is so cool that Bob got to do that! I think the reason why people "don't like" LDS people, is because many of them might be a little bit intimidated by us. I remember when I joined the church in Finland, some of my old non-member friends felt so uncomfortable with it. They said that it annoyed them, because I was trying to live a better life (no drinking, no swearing etc.) and they couldn't or didn't want to do it.

Do you remember when Dad was in that commercial for that Nissan dealership that he worked for in Bountiful? I think we watched it over and over...pretty cool...he's a real celebrity now!

I always knew at least one of my kin would be famous. I'm glad it's you, Mr. LDS Councilor.

All joking aside, wasn't Mitt's speech so good? I'm so glad they got someone smart in TN to give the church's perspective. I wish we could have seen Bob's interview. I'll bet it was great!

Can we go to a website and see this interview???? I would love to hear it, Devon would have been all over it to be on TV and talk about Mitt. That is so awesome and kudos to him for doing it, I will have to remember that in TN he is the authority on the church (hehe).
