Christmas tag
- Do you like egg nog or hot chocolate? Hot chocolate! (that one was easy)
- Does Santa wrap presents or just leave them under the tree? It depends on whether or not the kids he is leaving them for would snoop....I think he wraps them.
- Do you hang mistletoe? No, never have....that would take too much planning.
- When do you decorate? We'll just skip this question this year. We'll let you know when it happens.
- What is your favorite holiday dish? My family would say it's the prime rib we had two years in a row that they say is now a tradition. (Good try kids) It was good though!
- My favorite holiday memory...There are too many to name a favorite. I do remember being VERY excited to have Santa deliver a new puppy to our house. I couldn't wait to see our kids reactions!
- When did I find out the truth about Santa? What in the world does this question mean...you guys know the rules. You gotta believe!
- Do we open a gift on Christmas Eve? Always...new pajamas!
- Real or fake tree? Always real until last year. The lights don't work on the top of the tree so we've been trying to get them to work. Thus, no decorations are on it yet. (stupid fake tree!)
- What tops your tree? An angel made by Miss Shauna at Monroe Elementary school. She gave it to us before we moved from Utah to California and told me that when I look at it I should remember that I have angel children. I should keep it up all year!
- Do you enjoy giving or receiving? I enjoy giving (of course)!
- I'll try to combine all the remaining questions in this last answer.
I've gone back and forth with the colored or white light thing. I used to really like different colors on the Christmas tree...now I like white and different colored ornaments. I have always loved the snow. I probably fantasize about it since I haven't lived in it for so many years. If I lived in it, I'd probably fantasize about living somewhere that it didn't snow. Go figure! I love all Christmas music except the one about the little boy trying to buy shoes for his mother because she is about to die. I seriously have to turn the station when that song comes on. Also, the song we used to make fun of that talks about giving your heart to "someone special" has really grown on me! I do NOT like candy canes. I don't think I've ever just eaten one by itself. I would love to be able to shop on line, but have a hard time buying something I haven't touched. Our Christmas morning tradition has been Christmas breakfast for as long as I can remember. I wonder if we'll ever change the menu. (Grandma Johnson's Christmas casserole, hot chocolate, and Carma's bran muffins.....yummmm!) As for the Christmas card...we started doing one of those Christmas newsletters many years ago...it kindof tops off our year. Many people dislike getting them, but we really do read each and every one we get. Maybe we appreciate them a little more because most of the one's we get are from friends and family we don't live near anymore.
So I guess I'd better be off to finishing my half done list of things to do. If I don't get busy, none of you will receive our much anticipated newsletter. Now wouldn't that be tragic?! If anyone is interested....next year my shopping will be done by July 1st, and the Christmas lights are going up on the house the day after Halloween, right after I take down our wonderful Halloween display!

Tagged...Six unknown facts about me...
- In the 8th grade (just a few years ago) I helped spearhead a little rebellion at good old Northwest Junior High School. We tried to get as many girls as possible to join us in a demonstration against the establishment and their strict dress standards, which we felt were unconstitutional. Word spread and I believe there were about 200 girls who showed up to school wearing pants. We entered our first period classes and immediately heard over the intercom that every girl wearing pants was to report to the auditorium immediately. Of course, there were those who brought skirts just in case. But those of us who were determined to fight for our cause left our pants on and headed for the auditorium. We made the ten o'clock news that night and were all suspended from school for the day. Then came the hard part...how to tell our parents! Such a rebel.
- I LOVE green olives! I was at Costco the other day and saw a woman buying two big jars of them. My mouth literally watered looking at them. I don't buy them, however, because I would end up eating all of them myself.
- My sisters and I used to sing together. We even took voice and choreography lessons from a lady in Murray Utah for a time. We had hopes of making it big someday. Our dad knew someone that knew someone that was going to tell someone about us and get us our break so we could sing at Disneyland and then my sister decided she wanted to get married instead. Just think what may have possibly, if our dad really did know someone that knew someone that could refer us to someone else, happened.
- I was the fastest runner in the 5th grade!
- My mom used Henna on my hair when I was in grade school and turned me into a redhead for several weeks.
- I really like country music and had a thing for Toby Keith for a while. My husband even downloaded "Whiskey for my Men, Beer for my Horses" as his ringtone for me. That is, until he was interviewing a bishop one night and I called him.
So there you go....betcha didn't know that! If you're reading this...consider yourself tagged.

Utah visits Nashville
- Elmo's World is a great little movie...I think I have it memorized.
- The song sung to the tune of jingle bells has fairly easy lyrics...."friends"...that's it.
- Naptime is very important.
- Sometimes all you need is a power nap to get you through the day.
- "Uppa" means "I want you to pick me up".
- "damma" means "down"
- It makes your grandpa very happy when you shout out "Bapa" from the back of the chapel in church and point to him on the stand repeatedly throughout the meeting.
- "ooooeeee" means "movie" in the car....doesn't everyone play movies in their cars??
- Teletubbies isn't nearly as disgusting when you watch it with a 17 month old.
- It's more fun to stay outside in the garden at the Carnton mansion and throw rocks than to be inside with all those adults who want to hear a boring tour guide.
- That guy at the Japanese Steak House is really scary with those knives he throws around and the big fire he makes on his grill.
- Dinner is to be eaten alternating one bite in the mouth and one on the floor.
- Waffles are great food to feed a toddler while pushing them in a stroller.
- Strollers should be hidden and not talked about.
- The first thing Parker learns to spell will probably be S.T.R.O.L.L.E.R.
- It's fun to call out "JOE" from the bottom of the stairs when you know he's upstairs.
- Joe is much easier to say than "daddy".
- It's great to snuggle with Parker right after he wakes up in the morning.
- Why rent a movie for $1 when you can buy it at Wal Mart for $20, and then you find four more movies on sale for $5 and end up spending $40. Makes sense to me!
It seems like we were just getting the hang of things and our time together was over. We drove them to the airport and said goodbye. We watched them as they breezed through security...no drama this time. Then we gave our last wave, wiped away our tears, and walked silently back to our car with the now empty carseat in the back. This, my friends, is what life is made of. We are so blessed!

How could it be that my once sweet little girl grew to be this absolutely beautiful young lady?
How could it be that my once sweet little girl is now raising her own family and has a sweet little girl to train and teach to be a lady?
How could it be that my once sweet little girl is now teaching and training other young women to become as her?
How could it be that my once little girl who I could hold in the palm of my hand when she was born, is now standing tall and raising a righteous generation?
How could it be that my first born is now following in her mother’s footsteps in being kind, loving, caring, and watching over her own family?
How could it be, that we have been so blessed to have such a wonderful young lady who sets an example for so many?
How could it be, that when we say Kimberly you have to use “and Robyn” with her name?
How could it be, that where two once kneeled in the temple, there now stands 11 and ¾?
How could it be, that a couple filled with love for one another could have a family that means more to them than anything in the entire world?
How could it be that the distance between us is shortened through the Internet?
How could it be that this young lady grew to stand taller than many of her friends spiritually?
How could it be that this young lady continues in her example for all she associates with?
How could it be our number one child could be so bright, beautiful, and kind?
How could a loving Heavenly Father know the needs of a young couple when He blessed their lives with the three greatest children a couple could ever raise?
How could the blessings of parenthood be so great when all you think about is the well-being of your children and grandchildren?
Out of all things given us, we have three wonderful children who we love with all our hearts. We have a daughter who is having a birthday which signifies our aging, yet her birthday shows her maturity as a special daughter of a Heavenly Father who loves her beyond measure.
Her birthday today is our blessing into the eternities.
We will continue giving thanks for two special daughters and one wonderful son who bless our lives with their examples and their own desires for a righteous life.
How could we have so many blessings that our cup runneth over?
We have a Heavenly Father who does love us.
The windows of Heaven have truly been opened and the blessing of parenthood has been poured out upon us.
The blessing has been so great there is hardly room to receive it.
Oh how great our joy is with having such great children.
Happy Birthday Kimberly!
We love you honey.

I Blinked & She's Grown Up!
- and I was having a baby girl on Halloween. It was a Monday in October and we were having the first snow of the season. This, the nurses told me, was the reason I was in labor. She was a whopping 6 lbs. 4 oz. Yes, she was full term...just tiny!
- and she was starting to talk. She couldn't say her "K's"so we would say over and over...say Ka...Kimberly, and she'd say Ka...Timberly.
- and would watch her play outside with her friends laughing when she would not knock at her friend's door because she didn't want to pass their cat on the sidewalk.
- and was crying as I took her to kindergarten when she was still only four years old and after a talk with her teacher decided that another year home with me would be just fine.
- and I was amazed at how fast that time went by.
- and her popularity grew as well as her self confidence.
- and her world came crashing down on her when we moved to California.
- and she tried so hard to make new friends.
- and she made Freshman cheer.
- and she did make friends and grew in beauty and self confidence.
- and she cheered and cheered.
- and she was a teenager who turned boys' heads wherever she went.
- and she made Vocal Ensemble.
- and she sang and sang.
- and she was driving and dating and cheering and singing.
- and I was losing sleep waiting for her to get home when she was out.
- and she started dating an amazing boy, and I still stayed up and waited for her to get home.
- and she was graduating.
- and she left home for college...and I cried...and she cried.
- and she felt like her world was crashing down on her.
- and she made new lifelong friends.
- and she was glad she went.
- and my life changed when she got engaged to this amazing boy she loved.
- and we loved him.
- and her world changed.
- and she blinked....
and she became more beautiful and self confident and is saying that time is going by too fast.

There's no Place Like Home
- Rick and Bubba in the morning (yes it is an actual radio talk show program...they have a pretty catchy theme song that caught my attention when surfing channels one morning.)
- The quest for the perfect commute, and ultimately realizing there is only one way out of Dodge which is down a two lane country road with enough traffic on it to require a three lane highway.
- Practicing my sounthern hospitality wave to every car I let in front of me on above mentioned road.
- The ten or eleven motivating thoughts posted outside the churches I pass on my way, and pondering the one that reads "Spiritual but not Religious? Find what you're looking for...join us on Sunday."
- Testing my driving skills as I drink my Slim Fast and check my hair and makeup while all the while staying on the narrow road that has no shoulder.
- Being happy I am at least going against traffic.
- Passing by a farm on Franklin Road and never getting tired of seeing the cows and the beautiful view.
- Entering historic downtown Franklin and feeling like I've stepped back in time.
- Once again testing my driving skills as I navigate my car down a long gravel driveway to park as close to the fence as possible allowing three other cars to park in the backyard of old yellow house turned dental office.
- Knowing that later I will have to back out of said driveway...YIKES!
- A day full of phones, patients, money, scheduling, fighting with insurance companies, e-mails, x-rays, computers, sales reps, ordering, copying, fixing equipment, toothaches, prescriptions, filing, entering data, making deposits, writing checks, schmoozing, and spit sucking.
- Off the wall questions about my religion. Example..."with your church's view on polygamy would someone having an affair receive any kind of discipline?"
- Trying not to laugh at such questions answering them with as much grace and dignity as I can muster.
- Impromptu lunches out with the office.
- The feeling of satisfaction that comes when you know you've really helped someone.
- Wondering how a doctor can still make money when he trades for a service someone can render when they can't afford their dental needs.
- Watching someone smile for the first time in a long time after having some excellent cosmetic dentistry.
Yes...I'll be missing out on some good things and some not so good things. We'll see what becomes of me. I'm just thankful I have a choice. For now that choice is home, and there's no place like home! Wish me luck as I continue my quest to get a life...we're not in Kansas anymore Toto!! We are far away and over the rainbow!

I've Been Tagged!
- Where did you meet your husband?
We knew of each other since we were in junior high school, but didn't officially meet until we were in our high school biology class.
- What was the first thing you said to your husband?
I think we were talking about a dance that was coming up at another high school that he had been invited to by another girl.
- Where was your first date?
Our first date was with a bunch of his friends at a place called Bimbo's Pizza (how's that for a name) near the U of U. I wonder if it's still there.
- Where was your first kiss?
It was on my front porch after one of our dates...(no, I'm not blogging any details...let's just say the earth moved under my feet!)
- Did you have a long or short engagement?
Our engagement was long. We were engaged in late August and married the beginning of February. It's funny that we say 6 months is a long time when most people think a year is the minimum.
- Where did you get engaged?
Bob proposed to me up on Ensign Peak overlooking the city lights. He surprised me with an engagement ring and proposal the night I returned from a trip to Washington DC.
- Where were you married?
We were married in the Salt Lake Temple.
- How was the reception?
We had a fun reception. We had both grown up in the same area, so there were lots of guests. The only problem was that our invitation had been printed with the right name for the church it was at, but the printer put the wrong address. He put the address of the stake center he went to and where Bob's family went. He knew Bob's family and just assumed that's where we would have the reception. Luckily it was just down the street (something that would only happen in Utah) and people figured it out immediately. I still can't believe that happened and we still paid for the invitations! Oh well...that's water under the bridge. As you can see, I', completely over it!!!
- Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Sweetwater Resort at Bear Lake. It was such a beautiful place. We both love the snow (good thing since it was February). We have had a lot of laughs over the years about our time there. We would walk as far out on the Lake as we dared to walk before cracking the ice. The room was really beautiful and had a big corner fireplace in it. We loved having a roaring fire blazing in the fireplace at night since it was so cold outside. There was a note in the room telling us that we were to use logs purchased from the resort in the fireplace. However, they were quite expensive. We decided one night, as we were driving back from Montpelier Idaho where we ate dinner in a bowling alley, (now that's romantic!) to stop at a little store and buy a cheaper pressed sawdust log for our fire. We got back to our condo and lit up the romantic fire. Things were going just fine until the log exploded and split apart sending burning chunks down by the glass surrounding the fireplace. Next thing we knew the glass EXPLODED everywhere!!! We had glass from one end of the room to the other. The only thing we could think about was that we were going to be in soooo much trouble for burning an "illegal log" in the fireplace. We cleaned up the evidence and took our smoldering log down the back steps and out into the frozen tundra where it could blend with nature. Needless to say, it was a rather uncomfortable night. We left the next morning and after much pondering decided to confess our plight when we checked out. Ready to take our punishment and pay for the damage, the desk clerk replied with "Oh...don't worry about it...this happens all the time!!!" We were relieved we didn't have to pay for the damages, but laughed about the fact that we spent the night with all that glass. We could have been moved to another room and could have enjoyed our last night with a nice roaring fire if we had decided to fess up earlier. We never did admit that it was us who melted their little garbage can in the bathroom.
Now to tag those of you who are dying to answer these questions....I tag Vivian, Tina, Patti (this will get you to update your blog) and Aimee

Our Bonus Week with Michael
This friend of ours is a cardiac anesthesiologist and asked Michael if he would be interested in being in on a heart surgery. He jumped at the opportunity and really enjoyed it.
Here's a few things I learned from Michael while he was here:
- It is much too tempting to have a can of whip cream in the refrigerator.
- It is perfectly fine to take such can and squirt directly into one's mouth.
- It is much less tempting after you've seen someone's corroded arteries.
- They only sell "old men's" suits at major department stores.
- Never ever wear one of those suits where the waist comes up just below the rib cage.
- It's ok to buy at discount stores as long as those stores are The Gap, Banana Republic, or Nautica.
- Driving 15 hours a day is a snap as long as you have the right fuel such as Pepsi Max and Dr. Pepper.
- A driving lawnmower is a "must purchase" item here in Tennessee.
- It would not be a waste of money to hire a lawncare service.
- It's cool to know the owner of Sonic when you've just had poor service at his Sonic in Provo.
- You can survive after working outside in 500 degree weather.
- If you stand in on a surgery, you tend to refer to it as "our surgery".
- You're never too old to have your mom scratch your back.
- Sleeping on a mattress that doesn't sink in the middle makes you want to sleep in.
- It's a bit awkward to be translating your dad's talk for him when he says "we paid good money to have Michael be able to do this."
We love you Michael. Thanks for the good time. We're sad to see you go, but excited for you to have another great year at school.

Caution: Answering an ad
Tonight after work he asked if we could have a little chat. Trouble is, he's really a nice guy and seems to be a really good dentist. After talking to him, we have a little understanding. I don't want to keep working...but I will...as long as he needs me...until he finds someone else to take my place...as soon as I know everything well enough to train the next person...as long as I don't leave his office too soon because he doesn't want to start interviewing yet...not until he has gained an appreciation for our religious differences...and basically, even then...just a little here and there. Maybe I did read the ad right...or not?! How in the world do I get myself into these situations!

"Don't Miss IT for the World"
Youth Conference 2007 held at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green Kentucky. The theme for this year's Youth Conference was "Don't Miss IT for the World" ("It" meaning the temple, or at least what the temple represents.)
We were given responsibility for 20 kids. Bob had 6 boys and I had 16 girls (how fair is that!). Only four of them were from our stake, so we had to get to know names and faces really fast! We were the "Blue" group which started out having 14 kids and by the end of the get to know you games there was 20. I don't have any idea how that happened, I just know I kept adding names to my list. At the end of the first day, we were able to recognize the kids in our group.
- We can tell how we are doing spiritually by the way we feel about sin.
- Two words that describe the secret to scripture study are: consistency, and intensity.
- Get out of the "check off the box mode" when it comes to scripture study.
- Learn to "juice" the scriptures.
- Keep a scripture journal.
- There's more to a picture of David and Goliath than a small guy, a big guy, and a rock.
- If you are a casual christian, someday you will be a christian casualty.
- Write down your general impressions and follow them.
- If we follow our general impressions, more detailed impressions will follow.
- Keep a small notebook and pencil with you.
- Tommy Babylony Figer is not the place to shop.
- You can always tell where something was made whether it be Zion or Babylon.
- So check your music, clothing, movies, books, etc. and see where they are made.
- We are in the middle of the most brutal custody battle ever waged.
- "Who's your daddy?"...you choose.
Great fun, free food, and so much more...
