In the days that followed, I remember seeing crowds gathering on street corners with candles burning and flags flying. I remember crying every time I passed one of these gatherings. I remember the sincere feeling of pride I felt as I saw American flags everywhere. I remember stores running out of American flags and people asking one another where they could find one.
It has been seven years since that fateful day, but it is still fresh in my memory. Although it is a day that will go down in history, unfortunately, it's not quite history yet. We are still living it. Our lives are forever changed.
As I thought about this, I decided I could fight back in my own way today. I will:
- Say a prayer of thanksgiving.
- Fly the American Flag
- Take a walk and enjoy the beauty all around me.
- Love my family.
- Be a little kinder.
- Laugh.
- Forgive.
- Have some fun.
- Have the kind of day the terrorists thought they could take away.
May we always remember to be thankful for those who have made today possible for all of us. Have a great day! God Bless America!

What a great post in remembrance of that day! I love that you are able to fight back and turn it into a positive!
I like how you are fighting back by showing love, living free, praising god, and being patriotic. Well said.
Sometimes that's all we can do. And good! That's just what will piss Bin Laden and his cronies off the most.
And I remember you waking me up to come watch the news! I was glued to the TV ALL DAY! It's true...life has to go on...happily! Love ya!
thanks for the post. I remember exactly what I was doing on that morning as well. I swear I was glued to the TV for like 2 weeks afterwards.
I had a hard time coming out of that darkness of fear and depression but I see only good from showing love, and pride in our country. And respecting and honoring those men and women who sacrifice so much for those freedoms we enjoy. We pray for those hero's everyday as a family, because we know it isn't just those that are serving that are the hero's but those at home supporting them in their desires to make this world a better place to live.
Thank you again. You are so good with words!
I've missed you and your posts! Good to see you are back!
I think that is the best way to live your life and love your country! God Bless America!
Ther are some days in our lives we always remember and this is one of them. Another one in my life (I'm old) is the day Kennedy was shot. It is so important to remember our freedom, we take it for granted way too much. Thanks for helping us not forget.
I was pregnant with Jake on 9/11 and I remember thinking "what kind of world am I bringing a new baby into". I loved that people were so patriotic and not ashamed to admit it. It reminded us of how lucky we are to live in the U.S.A and our freedoms. It's too bad all that stuff kinda got pushed aside - and we're back to those who don't appreciate it. I won't ever forget it either, how could I. Those terrorists thought they could squash us...and we're still fighting here and around the world. I have to remind myself not to be afraid when I fly or drop the kids off at school - each time I defy that fear I'm fighting back in my own little way.
